Photo project “Mom’s Power”
16 feeding women from a town of Cherkasy in central Ukraine became the participants of a photo project “Moms Power”. This project includes 32 photo works telling the story of real love and intimacy. Photographer Olga Nosova-Yelisieieva talks about the artistic and social parts of the project: «My personal experience of breast feeding my son has become the inspiration for the project. I was amazed by the beauty and harmoniousness of this process. The hall posters of the maternity home were saying only about the usefulness but not the beauty of breast feeding. And even more so they didn’t depict the soul of the process. That’s how the idea of “Mom’s Power” came to me. It’s important to say that the heroines of the project do not only inspire women to breast feed but also help the feeding women in real life. Most women-participants take an active part in the activities of The Social net of breast feeding support “Milk Community”. This organization was created by mothers of Cherkasy and it gives both informational and practical support to women and their families during the breast feeding period absolutely free of charge.
After presenting the exhibition in the galleries of Cherkasy this spring, the author is in search of new exhibition proposals. Eventually the photo works will be given to and placed at the maternity home.
